I Taught My Daughter How to Read
You can too This has been one of the most terrifying parts of homeschooling my daughter. She’s only 4, but has been showing a lot of readiness signs for reading. We’ve taken it slow, with little expectation. But I’ve struggled with the fear of whether or not I would be able to teach her one of the most important learning milestones of her entire life. I had never taught someone to read before. I have read countless books to my kids. I have taught and reinforced letters to my oldest son (who was in a charter school for Kindergarten and First Grade). But his teacher was phenomenal and did the…

How do I Run Businesses AND Homeschool?
It’s possible to homeschool, run a business, and get time for yourself without losing your mind. People have asked me how I do it all. How can I run a blog, a business, homeschool, and keep my sanity? The answer will surprise you. First of all, I don’t do it all. And no, I don’t have a ton of disposable income (yet) to hire out everything. I try (sometimes imperfectly) to live by the following principle: You can’t do everything, but you can do the things that matter the most. It’s not a bible verse or a word from God. It’s a common-sense mindset that has freed me to say…

Simplify Art for Homeschool
For the longest time, I desired to be that Pinterest mom. You know, the ones who make those gorgeous craft projects daily. I wanted to have the perfect themed crafts for my kids every single day so that our walls would be filled with themed crafty goodness. I’m thinking of the popsicle stick and paper crafts that I remember from my childhood. The holiday crafts and handprints that are so stinking cute. But I’m not the Pinterest mom. And as much as I would love to have the energy to organize and come up with new craft ideas daily, I don’t. And that’s okay. But I don’t let it stop…

Don’t Let These 7 Homeschooling Myths Stop You From Teaching Your Kids
Homeschooling kids are by far some of the most mature groups that I’ve ever encountered. They are articulate, smart, considerate, and interesting. I’ve always been astounded at how well most of these kids interact with other people. If you’re considering homeschooling or just getting started with homeschooling, you’ll likely run into a lot of different myths and opinions from other people. It’s important to help you understand that these are untrue in most cases and there are ways to break the stigma. I also want you to know that you’re not alone in your homeschooling journey and you can reach out for help along the way. I love encouraging families…

Board Games are the Best Educational Tools for Your Homeschool
I love board games. I always have. When my sister and I were growing up we played board games for hours with our cousins at various family events. These events would go on late into the evening, so us kids were left to come up with our own fun. I grew playing Trouble, Sorry, Hungry Hungry Hippos, Memory, Candy Land, Life, Monopoly, Stratego and many more. We played games, dress-up, explored, and had so much fun. These are some of my best memories. These memories are the reason I started buying board games back when my oldest was little. I wanted him to grow up playing these games too. I…
