Want Better Health? Say Goodbye to Your Microwave

At the risk of sounding like a cuckoo with a tinfoil hat, hear me out. I’m all about helping you make healthy choices for your mind, your body, and your family. I believe God wants us to be good stewards of all these things. And information gives us what we need to make better choices to improve our health.

While I know that microwaves offer a certain level of convenience, does that convenience outweigh the potential harm they can cause?

I’ll let you decide for yourself.

Do you know what the microwave is doing to your food? Here’s the short version. Microwaves use electromagnetic energy to make water molecules move super fast, which heats them up, and in turn, heats up your food. Sounds benign right?

What you may not know is that these waves are absorbed by your food, and then eaten by you. So you know how you were warned not to stand too close to the microwave as a kid? Well, maybe we shouldn’t be eating the food either.

What do these waves do to your body? One study showed that many components of your food are converted into carcinogens in the microwave process. Additionally, the food affects your immune system and reduces the benefit of any nutrients in the food. For example, the amino acids in milk and cereal grains become carcinogenic when they are microwaved.

What is a carcinogen? It’s any substance that promotes the creation of cancer. Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States of America.

In one study, they were able to show distinct and measurable changes in the blood for people who ate food that was microwaved versus other methods of cooking.

The data shows that microwaving just isn’t the best for our bodies. Manipulating our food at the molecular level to heat it up is related to significant health issues and if you’re looking to reduce your toxic load, not microwaving can make a huge impact.

What can I do instead? I know you want a convenient way to heat up your food, your tea, and your coffee. Here’s the deal, heat your leftovers in the oven, on the stovetop, or in a toaster oven. These are all great ways to heat your food, and it really doesn’t take that much extra time. If you’re not at home, and you need to reheat something and a microwave is all you have, then do what you gotta do.

I’m all about helping you do what matters the most. As for me, we choose not to own a microwave, but we use them when we’re traveling if that’s all we have.
